NLOKids Theatre Camp
Ages 8-13
NLOKids, presented by Northern Light Opera Company in cooperation with Pine Point School, is offering its 10th annual Theater Camp! Students will work together for 3 weeks to create their own play with music, which they perform for the Park Rapids and Pine Point communities. Everything will be created by kids - a devised script, sets, costumes, music, and publicity - with lots of theater games and acting/vocal exercises to build confidence and forge friendships. It's a spectacularly creative program, with participants developing their collaborative skills and gaining confidence in their own ideas.

Instructors: Ernest Briggs, Minneapolis theater artist and board member of the Guthrie Theater; Lisa Dove, from Northern Light Opera Company; and Hawken Paul, Minneapolis actor, musician, and teaching artist with the Children's Theater Company.

Camp takes place from June 22 - July 10, meeting Mon-Thur from 9:30am-1:30pm at the Pine Point School, with school bus transportation available from the Century School at 9am, returning at 2pm. Some sessions will be held at the Park Rapids Armory Arts & Events Center, to be determined as needed.

The schedule is as follows:
Week 1: Focus will be on movement work and improvisation, devising the script and creating the setting and characters.

Week 2: Focus will be on creating original music and set/prop/costume designs as the show is further developed.

Week 3: This week meets Monday-Friday and will focus will be on synthesizing all of the elements and rehearsing for the performances.

Performances will be Friday, July 10 in the afternoon at Pine Point Community Center and Saturday, July 11 in the late morning at Park Rapids Armory.
